Life Insurance Explained
Life insurance does not conjure up pretty thoughts and is something that many us would rather not think about and yet life insurance plays an important role in safe guarding the future of our loved ones. Many that take out life insurance feel the necessity of having the financial security in place for their families should something happen to themselves and in the event of having to pay off debts and suffer loss of income as a result. There are a great number of different life insurance policies available but on a general scale, the more commonly used ones are known as whole life and term life insurance.

Whole life insurance policies have two facets to it in that while the monthly premium is paid to cover the cost of the insurance cover being offered, a portion is also turned into an investment, to initiate growth over time. There are different types of whole life insurance policies available although the principles offered by each one remain the same. Term life insurance operates quite differently compared to whole life insurance. This type of insurance has no cash added feature to it. This means the premiums that are paid every monthly are solely used to pay for life insurance cover for a specific period of time – hence the use of the phrase term. Once the end of the period has been reached a new policy needs to be taken out.
There are naturally benefits and drawbacks to both policies depending on what your needs are. The most prominent benefit of whole life insurance cover is that the policyholder will receive cover for life, whereas term life insurance is limited. Also, due to the added feature of a cash value account, policyholders can withdraw or borrow against for as long as that policy remains in existence. Any earnings that are generated through this investment is also not tax deductible. However, whole life insurance can be quite costly whereas term life insurance is more affordable for those on a budget.
If you are considering becoming a life insurance policyholder be sure to carry out significant research beforehand by searching online and consulting with a number of life insurance agents to determine exactly what kind of life insurance policy will suit your needs and the needs of your family the most.
